Route of The Las Alpujarras The Legado Andalusí

This road that connects Almería and Granada through Las Alpujarras is one of the most varied and surprising routes in Europe. Its fascinating landscape of orchards planted with vegetables and fruit trees is mixed with chestnut, oak and holm oaks, mostly part of the Sierra Nevada National Park.

Alpujarra

Your Trip to Granada should undoubtedly incorporate into the itinerary this private experience in one of the most beautiful, quiet and relaxing corners, the Route of Las Alpujarras, an experience that takes us to Berber villages in southern Europe, where the moorish legado and of Castilian repopulators it remains alive. Its unique architecture, with its steep streets, dotted with the typical Alpujarra terraos and tinaos, chimneys with a hat and its fountains and laundries, will not leave anyone indifferent.

The thousand-year-old ditches that collect the water from the Sierra Nevada irrigate the orchards of our landscape as in the past. Its typical dishes and famous Moorish pastries will also delight our senses.

We find towns chosen as the most beautiful in Spain. Quiet, relaxing, calm, with flavor and a different way of living.

The first town that we see is Lanjarón, “Pueblo del Agua”, known for its spa of healing waters and that for the moment we will leave to continue our way through the mountain road, with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada. In short, we will glimpse Órgiva and we will be surprised by the huge twin towers of the Church of Our Lady of Expectation, from the 16th century.

We continue towards the Barranco de Poqueira where we will find on its left bank the three most picturesque and well-known towns of the Alpujarra: Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira. We will visit the first of them, Pampaneira, we will walk through its narrow and beautiful streets and we will be able to drink water at the legendary San Antonio Fountain, located near the Church.

We will visit a chocolate factory where we can enjoy a small tasting. We will continue our tour visiting a manual loom, where we will learn from the hands of an artisan how to make a jarapa, she will teach us how to weave one to our liking and we can take it as a souvenir.

We will continue through the white towns like Bubión, where time stands still, and the sunsets are magical, from the height, being able to glimpse the Mediterranean and on clear days the African continent.

We continue our journey to reach Trevélez, one of the highest villages in Spain, and the one that gives its name to its well-known ham, cured with the airs of Sierra Nevada and near Mulhacén, the roof of the Iberian Peninsula.

A quiet stop in one of the local Taverns will delight our palate with the products of the land and a typical gastronomy such as the Alpujarreño Plate, the gachas, the migas, without forgetting the must and its Moorish sweets.

After lunch we go to Lanjarón.
